Giving Policy

1Cor. 16:2, “On the first day of the week let each of you put aside and save, as he may prosper…”

One of the reasons for assembling together on Sunday is for grace giving. There are five uses of money in the Bible and providing for the local church is one of them.

Other uses of money for the believer today are:

  • Pay Taxes (Ro. 13:6-7; Mt. 22:21);
  • Spend on yourself or Family (2Cor. 12:14; 1Tim. 5:8);
  • Provide for the Poor (Eph. 4:28; 1Tim. 6:18);
  • Spend to enjoy life (Isa. 65:22; 1Tim. 6:17)

2Cor. 8:12, “For if the readiness is present, it is acceptable according to what a man has, not according to what he does not have.”

A believer needs to have an attitude of readiness for an offering to be acceptable to God. If this attitude is not present, then the offering is given under the wrong motivation. It is better for the believer to not give if he does not have the proper biblical motivation.

2Cor. 9:7, “Let each one do just as he has purposed in his heart; not grudgingly or under compulsion; for God loves a cheerful giver.

The heart in the Bible refers to the Soul. Therefore, your giving to a local church is strictly between you and the Lord. No percentages or amounts are mentioned in the Bible for a believer today to donate. If you have a proper attitude, the financial means, and have determined in your Soul what is proper, then you are ready to donate to a local church.
